Kitchen-ing Questions is a virtual performance that aims at grasping the point of convergence between functionality, feminism and lockdown. Inspired by the iconic Frankfurt kitchen of the architect Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky, the performance is using the space of the kitchen as a reference point to look into the recently sharpened sensitivity for the blurred boundaries between working and leisure time. As the lockdown made the time of staying in the kitchen feel forever, we wanted to stay exactly there: overproducing, overcrowding, taking time, imagining, resting, choreographing. The audience is invited into the virtual state-ment of the performance to explore certain spatial conditions and the resulting functionality of movement. In this process, the spectators themselves become part of the performance: they are opening and closing doors, confusing private and public space, overhearing conversations, navigating through the virtual space and with that having their imagination triggered for the future of their own, as well as other people’s, kitchens.
